New Hope Under an Old Roof of the Journey to Success of Sunita

In a quiet, remote village, 14-year-old Sunita—affectionately known as Nita by her close friends—grew up in a weathered wooden house shared by four family members. In the past, Nita’s educational future was shrouded in uncertainty. Her parents were small-scale vegetable farmers, relying entirely on the modest income earned from selling their produce within the village to meet their daily needs. During those times, the costs of stationery, uniforms, and transportation were overwhelming burdens that nearly forced Nita to drop out of school. She used to walk 4 kilometers every day under the scorching sun, which left her exhausted and frequently caused her to miss out on her studies.

A major turning point arrived when the Girls' Education Initiative (GEI) reached her community. Through a comprehensive three-year scholarship package, Nita experienced a profound transformation. She no longer had to endure the long walk to school, as the project provided her with a new bicycle, ensuring she arrived on time and with enough energy to focus on her lessons. Furthermore, she received a complete set of school supplies and personal necessities, including brand-new uniforms, a school bag, shoes, books, pens, and even a water bottle. This support significantly alleviated the financial strain on her family.

Beyond material support, the project fostered a shift in her abilities and mindset. Nita was selected to participate in specialized remedial classes, which served as a crucial pillar in her preparation for national examinations. Receiving a monthly stipend provided her with a sense of financial security, allowing her to devote her full attention to her education. As a brilliant result, Nita consistently ranked among the top five students in her class for three consecutive years. She did not only excel for herself; she also spent her free time tutoring her peers in mathematics, demonstrating remarkable kindness and early leadership qualities.

With a bright smile, Sunita shared her feelings​ taht "In the past, I always worried about whether I would have a decent uniform for school the next day or if my parents could afford to buy me books. But since the GEI project started, I feel like I have been given a new life. I have a bicycle to ride, sufficient school materials, and the opportunity to attend extra classes that have boosted my confidence. This support is not just about the materials; it is the motivation that drives me toward my dream of becoming an English teacher so I can come back and help the children in my village." She also added a short, meaningful quote, that "The GEI project gave wings to my dreams to fly high."

In a heartfelt testimony, Nita’s parents expressed their deep gratitude that "We are poor farmers struggling to make ends meet, and we never had the means to buy a bicycle or high-quality school supplies for our daughter. Seeing her walk to school in exhaustion used to break our hearts, and we almost considered having her quit school to help us in the fields. However, we are so thankful to the GEI project for relieving our entire burden, from clothing to financial stipends. Seeing our daughter with a bicycle, reading her books, and achieving top grades is the greatest happiness for us. This project has truly changed the future of our daughter and our entire family."

Today, Nita has completed her exams with proud results. In her spare time, she is constantly seen reading English books, driven by her clear goal of becoming a teacher. Nita’s story is a living testament that when the right opportunities are provided, every child has the power to transform their destiny and their community.
