Integrating AI Literacy in Education across Rural and Urban Areas

2025-10-06 ·

This video, produced by KAPE Cambodia, highlights the implementation of AI literacy programs—specifically focusing on interactive tools like "AI for Oceans" and the "Hour of Code"—in Cambodian schools across both urban and rural environments.

  • Benefits for Students: Educators and students share how these lessons build essential digital skills. Instead of just being passive technology users, students learn critical thinking, how AI processes data, and how to spot "AI bias." The block-based coding approach makes complex concepts accessible and fun, encouraging students to consider future paths in technology.

  • Overcoming Challenges: In remote schools, teachers face significant hurdles, including massive class sizes (50–55 students), slow internet, and a shortage of devices (only about 20 computers per lab, with many students lacking smartphones).

  • Creative Solutions: To ensure no one was left behind, teachers grouped students together to share available smartphones and internet data. They also blended the AI courses directly into official ICT (Information and Communication Technology) classes and monthly testing to maintain regular attendance and high engagement.

  • Future Vision: The ultimate goal is to empower Cambodian youth to actively participate and compete in the growing digital economy, aligning with the country's national development milestones for 2030 and 2050.
