Every rainy season, the stream between Pchek village and its school swelled too high to cross. For months, dozens of children simply could not get to class.

As part of a community infrastructure initiative, KAPE worked with villagers to build a sturdy footbridge over the crossing. The build was led by local people, with the school's older students helping to carry materials.

Attendance that follows the seasons no more

Before the bridge, attendance in the village would collapse each wet season and never fully recover. This year, for the first time, enrolment held steady through the rains. A two-hour detour became a twenty-minute walk.

Children crossing a new footbridge to school

We did not just build a bridge. We built a promise that school will always be reachable.

The community now maintains the bridge themselves — a small structure with an outsized effect on the village's children.
